About MountstuartMind
I like Writing and making people laugh-- which usually involves satire, parody, sardonicism, hyperbole, lampoon, inscrutable metaphors, sarcasm and general mockery. Conversely, these can also make people cry; if this occurs, please adjust your personal settings.
Music
Classic rock, indie/college rock for the most part. Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Cream, Beatles, Super Furry Animals, Catherine Wheel, Doves, Lush, Curve, Underworld, Mercury Rev, Ride, Flying Saucer Attack are some favorites. Can't name them all. My "college rock days" were early-mid 90s, so I like a lot of those bands that people have forgotten about: The Cows, Railroad Jerk, The Bevis Frond, Girls Against Boys, Th' Faith Healers, Versus, The Auteurs, Long Fin Killie, Helium, Cosmic Psychos, Possum Dixon, Arcwelder, etc.
Films
Indie films. Office Space, Spinal Tap, Happy Gilmore, Best in Show, Big Lebowski, Pi, Summer School (anyone remember that one?!) are some favorites. Sadly, I do pull quotes from them if a situation necessitates. Even sadder is that I rarely remember a quote verbatim-- this is a skill at which males seem to succeed flawlessly. How do they do that?
Books
Old stuff. Classic literature. I think the most recent book I own is John Irving's Hotel New Hampshire. Every time I've given contemporary lit. a chance I've been left feeling empty afterwards. Same goes for contemporary poetry, though there are exceptions (i.e., Larkin). So Blake, Wordsworth, Tennyson, Swinburne, Arnold, G.M. Hopkins are some standouts; between these guys there is a gamut of pathos, politics, subversiveness and mastery at manipulating language. I could go on for days...

The first Killing Joke album was groundbreaking. It's still a great listen today. The band has had it's up and downs over the years. So many bands copied them their sound isn't as unique any more. Jaz is a very unique person. He's involved in a lot of music besides Killing Joke and has a unique perspective on music and it's role. I'm looking forward to the show. I've seen them several times with different line ups but this one will be special.
Just saw you on line. I have to go meet two clients so am getting off line now. Hope to hear from you soon!
I just updated the "Force Multiplication" thread.
Hope all is well, kiddo!!!

I'll actually be visiting my family in November but the KoL show may have been the deciding factor:) I haven't booked my flight yet and I was thinking about maybe seeing Coldplay but it would mean missing Thanksgiving with the family..... there's been many times when I've ducked out of things for a gig but I think I may be growing up a bit because now I feel guilty. Besides, I'm not an arena type person and I don't like their new album that much.
I liked Athens a lot, seemed to have that Southern charm that I love so much. Having said that, you can't really get a feel for a place in a day. I do really love Atlanta. My friend that I was with at the BRMC show in Athens is a Georgia Tech student...... so I guess I'll cheer for them too. Except I hate sport. Speak to you soon!
Thanks for mentioning Killing Joke in the forum. I totally agree. Are you going to any of the reunion shows? I'm going to the show in Chicago.

Just sent you a pm.
